The French sent Jacques Cartier and he sailed past Newfoundland and entered the St. Lawrence River. After he took two more trips, France stopped exploring places. The reason why they had stopped exploring was because Civil Wars started to happen and no more people explored until everything was settled.

Giovanni da Verrazzano was around the year of 1524. The French sent him to map the Americas coast and find a route through to Asia. Most people seemed like they wanted to find a route to Asia once Christopher Columbus, as you may have read before, started to try to find a route to Asia. Verrazzano mapped which what is now is North Carolina, which is north to Newfoundland. This route that he took had no path to Asia which meant that he failed to try and find the route to Asia like he was supposed to.
